NEW HAMPSHIRE OUTLOOK Air Date/Time: 08/30/04 22:00
HOST: Beth Carroll Length: 10:05 minutes
Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook. New Hampshire has long laid claim to having the first in the nation presidential primary and has fought to keep that tradition despite continued assaults. Every 4 years candidates vying for their party's presidential nomination converge on the Granite State in the weeks leading up to the primary. 2004 was no different.with Democrats --including John Kerry-- campaigning for the state's votes. The Massachussetts Senator went on to win NH's January 27-th primary. It was in 19-20 that Minnesota dropped its primary and Indiana changed its primary date. making New Hampshire the First in the Nation. Then in 19-77, the state enacted a law that eliminated any possible future encroachment on the state being first. During this summer's Democratic and Republican National Conventions. New Hampshire has been promoting it's first-in-the-nation primary status by handing out collectable lapel pins. Michael Chaney, President and CEO of the New Hampshire Political Library.has been giving out the pins. He's here now to talk about his Mission.
